Dungeon Ledger is free. Not free-for-fourteen-days, and not free-until-your-campaign- gets-good — the notes, the graph, the compendium and the DM tools are the product, and they do not cost anything.

What we will charge for, eventually
AI, and more room — not your notes
The one thing in Dungeon Ledger that costs real money per use is AI. Generating an NPC or a tavern, elaborating a note, asking the Living Book about your own campaign — each of those is a model call somebody pays for. A free account gets 30 credits a month, which is enough to use it properly without it being the reason you are here.
Paid plans will raise that allowance and lift the campaign cap for DMs running more than 6 games at once. They are not built yet — there is nothing to buy today, and this page will say so until there is.
What will not happen is the writing, linking, sharing and reading of notes moving behind a paywall. That is the part a group depends on mid-campaign, and taking it away later would be a bait and switch.
Common questions
- Is Dungeon Ledger really free?
- Yes. There is no card, no trial clock and no expiry. A free account runs up to 6 campaigns as the DM and joins unlimited campaigns as a player, with the notes, graph, compendium, maps, puzzles and soundboard all included.
- What is the catch on the free tier?
- The only metered thing is AI. Generating an NPC, elaborating a note or asking the Living Book a question spends credits from a monthly allowance of 30, which resets each month. Everything that is not an AI call — writing, linking, sharing, reading — is unmetered.
- Does every player at my table need to pay?
- No, and they do not need to think about limits at all. Joining a campaign as a player is unlimited on a free account, so only the person running the game ever encounters a campaign cap.
- Will you start charging for what I use today?
- Paid plans are planned, and they are about raising the AI allowance and lifting the campaign cap for people who want more — not about putting a wall around notes that are free today.
- Do you sell my campaign data?
- No. Analytics measures which pages get opened, across the site — it never reads what is in your notes, and you can decline it in the cookie banner without losing a feature. Your notes are not training data and are not sold.
