What's new

New features and improvements, newest first, and how to use each one.

  1. New featureFeaturedFor DMs

    Edit notes together, live

Several people can now edit the same note at once, with everyone's cursor on screen.

Turn on live editing and a shared note behaves like a shared document: everyone's changes appear as they type, each person's cursor shows in their own colour (hover it to see who it is), and nobody's work overwrites anybody else's.

It is ideal for session recaps written by the whole table, a shared loot list, or the party's plan the night before a heist.

    How to use it

    1. Open the campaign you run as DM.
    2. In the sidebar, choose Campaign Settings.
    3. Open the Data tab.
    4. Switch on Live editing.
    5. Ask everyone at the table to reload the page once. From then on, shared notes are live.

    Good to know

    • Only the DM can turn it on, and it is set per campaign.
    • It needs the rich-text editor. Older Markdown campaigns can be migrated from the same Data tab first.
    • Only notes shared with the whole table, or with named people, go live. DM-only and private notes never do.
    • HTML source view is not available on a note while it is live.
    • Search, the graph and public wikis use the last saved copy, which auto-saves shortly after you stop typing.
    Open your campaigns
  2. New feature

Plan notes for later with [[placeholders]]

Name a note before it exists: wrap it in [[double brackets]], then double-click it when you are ready to write it.

Mid-prep, you mention the Sunken Abbey, a smuggler called Vex and a cursed bell, and none of them have notes yet. Instead of stopping to make three new notes, wrap each name in double square brackets and keep writing.

Each one becomes a placeholder link, shown with a dashed underline, so you can see at a glance which parts of your world are still unwritten. When you are ready, double-click it and the note is created and opened for you.

    How to use it

    1. In any note, type a name inside double square brackets, for example [[Sunken Abbey]].
    2. Or type [[ and choose Link new note from the list if nothing matches yet.
    3. The name now shows with a dashed underline: that is a placeholder.
    4. Double-click it to create the note and open it straight away.

    Good to know

    • If a note with that title already exists, double-clicking links to it instead of making a duplicate.
    • A note created this way starts empty and private, so nothing is revealed to your players until you choose to share it.
    • Create a note with the same title any other way and the placeholders pointing at it are linked up automatically.
    • Works in the rich-text editor. Older Markdown campaigns can be migrated from Campaign Settings, Data tab.
  3. New feature

Post a quest on the tavern board

Report bugs, request features, leave a review and vote on what gets built next.

There is now a place inside Dungeon Ledger to tell us what is broken, what is missing and what is working for your table.

Feature requests and bug reports appear on a shared roadmap once we have reviewed them, marked Under review, Planned, In development or Completed. Upvote the ones you want most. When something ships, it shows up on this page and the roadmap item links straight to it.

Reviews go to the team only and come with a star rating, half stars included.

    How to use it

    1. Sign in and open your account menu (your avatar, top right).
    2. Choose Feedback & roadmap.
    3. Pick Bug report, Feature request or Review, then send it.
    4. Follow its progress under My submissions. Bug reports automatically include the page you were on.
    Open Feedback & roadmap
  4. Improvement

    Faster writing in the editor

A / block menu, a note outline, image paste and drag-and-drop, and print or save as PDF.

A handful of changes to make writing notes quicker, whether you are prepping alone or scribbling mid-session.

    How to use it

    1. Type / at the start of a line to insert a heading, list, task list, quote, code block, divider or table, or to link to another note.
    2. Give a note two or more headings and a clickable outline appears in the sidebar.
    3. Paste an image, drag one in, or use the upload button in the toolbar.
    4. Choose Print or save as PDF in the note sidebar for a clean ink-on-white copy, whatever theme you use.
  5. Improvement

Undo for deleted notes, sorting and folders

Deleting a note can now be undone, the note list can be sorted, and folders load with your notes.

Deleting a note now shows an undo bar at the bottom of the sidebar, so a slip of the mouse no longer costs you a session's worth of notes.

The note list can be sorted by title or by most recently updated, using the arrows next to the folder button. Folders now load together with your notes, and you can add a note to a folder from the editor.

  6. Improvement

The Living Book remembers the conversation

Follow-up questions to The Living Book now know what you were just talking about.

Ask The Living Book about the Baron, then ask "what does he want?" and it now knows who "he" is. Before, every question was answered on its own, so short follow-ups could land on an unrelated note.

It still only answers from the notes you are allowed to read.

    How to use it

    1. Open a campaign and choose The Living Book tab, pinned first in the tab bar above your notes.
    2. Ask a question about your campaign, then follow up as you would with a person.
  7. New featureFor DMs

Public campaign wikis and email invites

Publish a campaign as a read-only wiki, and invite players by email.

A DM can publish a campaign's shared notes as a read-only wiki on its own page. Private, DM-only and secret notes never appear on it, and every wiki is reviewed before it goes live.

Players can now be invited by email. The link works once, expires after 14 days and can be revoked, and anyone not yet signed up is brought straight back to the invite afterwards.

    How to use it

    1. To publish: Campaign Settings, then the Public wiki tab.
    2. To invite: Campaign Settings, then the Members tab, and enter the player's email.
